Madras High Court gave a verdict to ban homework for the first and second classes irrespective of their education boards. It directed the central government to make sure implementing the order.
Justice N Kirubakaran also stated that apart from the mathematics and languages, no other subject should not be forced on the students. Classes 3 to 5 can have the Environmental Sciences as their additional subject. Every school must follow the judgment else it will be disaffiliated from NCERT (National Council Of Education Research And Training ), he added.
State governments should appoint the flying squads to monitor whether the schools are complying with the judgment or not. And, this process should be started from the 2018 - 2019 academic year itself, he added.
If schools are not meeting the obligations then government must take the appropriate action on them for violating the judgment. Court had already given an order on "child school bag policy" to ensure that children should not carry heavy load bags.
